Meet Billy

Billy — pilot, engineer, self-proclaimed tech guy.

I grew up around the trades in Yorkshire. Plenty of my mates went into them, and my parents ran a small business. From a young age, I was helping with their social media, branding, website and whatever else needed figuring out.

That’s where my interest in digital started: finding practical ways to help a real business.

Alongside my main profession, I’m a self-taught software engineer, happiest working behind the scenes to make things run properly—but I’ve got an eye for design too.

I’m a big believer in small businesses, especially here in the North. I’ve seen the skill and effort that go into them, and I want their digital presence to do them justice.

Meet Jamie

Jamie — SaaS founder, engineer, small business owner.

I started my career as a medical equipment engineer before moving into aviation operations. From there, I founded a successful SaaS business, and today I run several small businesses.

Building those businesses has taught me how much goes into making something of your own—and how important it is that people understand what you offer.

A strong product or service gives you something worth building a brand around. Your online presence should help people see its value, get to know the business behind it and feel confident choosing you.

That’s what JW Strata is about for me: helping businesses like the ones I’ve founded and run build a brand online that reflects the quality of their work.

B / Why us

The online extension of your brand.

A website should be an extension of your brand. Visitors form an immediate emotional reaction to your website when they first see it. We understand this; we build your online presence with care, like we are building it for our own.

Modern tools have put branding, websites and search within reach of anyone with a laptop, which is no bad thing. We use these tools ourselves, and we help businesses get found in them. It’s also why so much of it now looks the same. Open a few websites for the same trade in the same town and they often read the same, with the same tone, the same three tidy paragraphs, a different name at the top.

The same tools, in the hands of people who were doing this work before they existed, give you something else. A page that opens on a phone with one bar of signal in a van, because it was built properly rather than generated. Words that sound like you because they were written after careful consideration of your business, not just blanket generated. A chance of being found when someone searches for the job rather than for your name, because the search is handled by people who learned it, not left to chance.

Website plans
and what each includes

Every plan starts with a bespoke website and includes hosting and ongoing care. Growth and Authority add regular work on your content and search visibility.

These plans include a website build. If you want SEO for an existing site, send us the address and we’ll agree a separate scope with you.

Website plans have a 12-month initial agreement, then continue monthly with 30 days’ notice. We agree the pages, functionality and launch scope with you in writing before work starts.

Talk about Authority
What counts as a minor change?

Updating supplied text, prices, opening hours or contact details; replacing supplied images; adding a testimonial; or adjusting existing links. Website includes 5 change requests per month, Growth 10 and Authority 15. Unused requests do not roll over.

New layouts, redesigns, substantial copywriting, major new functionality, ecommerce and custom integrations are quoted separately. Fixes to faults in our own work and the SEO work included in your plan do not use your minor-changes allowance.

What does priority mean?

We aim to complete routine, in-scope edits within five working days on Website, three on Growth and two on Authority, once we have the materials and approval needed. These are scheduling targets, not guaranteed resolution times. Larger requests get an agreed timescale.

Authority requests receive priority in our working-hours queue. Priority does not mean unlimited work or round-the-clock support. A website outage is assessed separately from a routine content request.

How are the monthly content tasks agreed?

Growth includes one content task a month and Authority includes two a month. A task is a standard service or location page, or a substantial improvement to an existing page, within the scope agreed for your site. We choose the work around your services, customer questions and search opportunities, rather than publishing pages just to reach a quota.

The topic, research and content needed are agreed before work starts. Specialist research, photography, large guides and new functionality are scoped separately. We will need your input and approval for facts about your business.

What happens after the first 12 months?

Your website plan continues monthly at its stated price, with 30 days’ notice to end it. You own your domain and the content you supply from day one. We register new domains in your name; if we manage the domain, we hand over management or help transfer it when you leave.

Once the initial 12 months are complete and payments are settled, you can take the website files and any relevant content or database export to another provider. Hosting, maintenance and our ongoing services end on the agreed cancellation date. We coordinate the handover before hosting stops; setting it up with a new host can be quoted separately.

Third-party software, stock assets and services remain subject to their own licences. Our reusable tools and components are not transferred as exclusive intellectual property; any dependencies and ongoing licences needed to run your website are identified in the proposal and handover.

Optional / Paid advertising

Run ads when
you need them.

Ad management is a separate, month-to-month service. It is not part of the website plan’s 12-month commitment. Agree the months you want us to manage; tell us before the next management month starts if you want to pause or stop. Pausing an advert mid-month does not automatically cancel that month’s management fee.

Google Ads

Management from £250/month

Plus an ad budget paid to Google. Most local campaigns need around £300 a month to be worth running.

  • Campaign setup and structure
  • Keyword research and ad copy
  • Conversion tracking
  • Ongoing optimisation and negative keywords
  • Monthly reporting
Ask about Google Ads

Meta Ads

Management from £250/month

Plus an ad budget paid to Meta. Around £200 a month is usually the least that gathers anything worth acting on.

  • Facebook and Instagram campaigns
  • Audience targeting and campaign setup
  • Creative and ad-copy guidance
  • Retargeting where appropriate and consented
  • Ongoing optimisation and monthly reporting
Ask about Meta Ads

LinkedIn Ads

Management from £250/month

Plus an ad budget paid to LinkedIn. A click here can cost around £7, so we advise at least £600 a month.

  • Business-to-business campaigns
  • Targeting by job title, company and industry
  • Ad copy and creative guidance
  • Conversion tracking
  • Ongoing optimisation and monthly reporting
Ask about LinkedIn Ads

More than one channel

Management from £400/month for any two, or £550/month for all three. Larger accounts are quoted according to advertising spend and campaign complexity.

Discuss a combination

Where those budget figures come from. Google publishes no minimum; the £300 is worked from a £2 average UK click. We quote no cost per click for Meta because we could not find UK data we trust. The LinkedIn figure is converted from dollars.

D / Your project brief

Let’s get the good ideas down.

Tell us what you have in mind.

This form prepares your brief in this browser and sends it our way. Press “Review your brief” first to check your notes. The buttons to send it or save a copy appear after that.

This is an enquiry, not an order. Selecting a plan does not start a contract or take payment. Setup charges and plan terms are shown above.

What can we help with? (optional)

Sending this brief emails it to Billy and Jamie so we can reply. We keep it only to answer your enquiry, and we do not pass it to anyone else. You can still save a copy or use an email address above instead, and nothing you type here is stored in your browser.

E / Before you start

What people ask us first

Do I need a finished brief?

No. Just start with your business, the customers you want to reach and the thing you want to improve. You can be interested in more than one service, or simply ask for help deciding where to start.

Do you only work with businesses in Doncaster?

We are based in Doncaster and build everything here ourselves. We also work with businesses in Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and across Yorkshire, and being further out is rarely the deciding factor. What matters more is the area you serve, because that shapes how we approach being found locally. Put your service area in the brief and we will tell you whether we are the right fit for it.

How much does a website cost?

Website is £199 setup and £149/month; Growth is £299 setup and £249/month; Authority is £499 setup and £399/month. Each website plan starts with a 12-month agreement, then rolls monthly with 30 days’ notice. Compare what is included. We agree your build scope before starting and quote separately for work outside it.

Which button actually sends my brief?

Only “Send to JW Strata”. “Review your brief” shows your notes on this page and sends nothing. You have to press it before the send button becomes active. “Save project brief” downloads a text copy for you, and “Open email draft instead” hands the text to your own email app, where you still have to press send yourself. When a brief really has been sent you land on a thank-you page, so if you have not seen one, it has not gone.

What happens after I send my brief?

It goes to Billy and Jamie. Both of us get it, and whichever of us picks it up replies to the email address you gave. We would normally want a short conversation before quoting, because the scope decides the cost and a brief rarely settles that on its own. Sending it does not commit you to anything.
