How we built
JW Strata.
We wanted the website to feel like somewhere we would work.

A / The brief
Make it feel
like us.
JW Strata comes from our interest in design and engineering, and in the businesses around us. Our own website needed to show that combination. It also needed to explain what we do, who we work with and how to get in touch.
A workshop gave those ideas a home. The workbench, studio desks, meeting table and shelves belong to the same place, but each gives us a different way to introduce the business. It’s a setting built around making things and paying attention to the details.
The words follow the same idea. We talk about the work a customer wants to show, the places they serve and what happens when someone finds them.
B / The build
Give each idea
its place.
We designed and built the two-floor interior in Blender, then brought it into the website as an interactive scene.
The camera moves between fixed views. Each view is composed around something worth looking at: the workbench, a service display, the showcase cabinet or the people at their desks. Visitors can choose a station and take a closer look.
Some things move when you select them. A frame lifts from a shelf; a card turns over; the people at the desks turn towards you. Those small movements make the objects part of how you explore the business.
C / Without the 3D
Not everyone wants the tour.
Some visitors will want to look around the workshop. Others will arrive with a question about a website, local SEO or cost. So the homepage opens on a still picture, and the 3D only downloads when you ask for it. We didn’t want anyone waiting for a whole building to load just to find our phone number.
Alongside the scene, the homepage has links and a written introduction to our services. The service pages, this showcase and the enquiry page open separately, so you can read them without opening the 3D workshop.
That gives the practical information its own space. You can compare the plans, read about ownership and ongoing care, meet Billy and Jamie, or send a project brief. The workshop introduces the business; the rest of the site helps you work out whether we’re right for yours.
D / What it shows
An idea you
can look around.
This is our own website, so you can explore the work itself. The scene, the service pages and the details of how we work are all here to inspect.
A different business calls for different choices. A tradesperson’s finished jobs might deserve the biggest space on the page. A photographer might need a carefully arranged portfolio. A specialist service might need a good explanation before anything else.
We start with the business and decide what will help people understand it. That’s the part of this project we would bring to yours.
